Make-Up Scheduler
If you have missed your regularly scheduled Music
Together®
class, use our online Make-Up Scheduler to find a make up class that fits
your schedule. You can search for potential make-up classes by class time/day,
location, teacher or availability. You can also use the Make-Up Scheduler
if you know in advance that you are going to miss a class. We often see an
end of semester rush so try to schedule your make-ups a early as possible.
If you know you will not be attending the make-up class, please cancel it
on the make up scheduler so another family can take the spot.
Make-Ups are available on a space availability basis and must be taken in
your current semester. They cannot be carried-over into future semesters.
If the scheduler tells you there are no spots available in a given class it
means all available make-up spots for that class have been assigned; please
try a different class time, day or location or check back later for more availability.

Maintaining a Healthy Environment
Please do not attend class if your child is ill. Take advantage of our liberal
make-up policy.
Minimize germs. The best defense against catching an illness is to wash both
your hands and your child’s hands immediately after class.
Please do not bring snacks into the classroom. At least one child enrolled
has a severe nut allergy and will react to “dust” from cookies
or other snacks that have a minimal amount of a nut product in it. Bottles,
cups and breastfeeding in class is fine when necessary.
Please do not wear perfume to class in Flemington as one of the instructors
is allergic.
Frequently Asked Questions
What do we do if a class is cancelled?
If we have to postpone for some unexpected reason
(power outage, weather) , we will announce it on our voicemail at 908 735
5957, post it on the “class news” section of the home page, and
attempt to contact the class participants. Usually we just tack the missed
class on to the end of the semester.
Is it OK for more than one adult to come to class?
Both or either parent, grandparents or caregivers
are welcome to attend class at any time – no need to ask. Whole family
music making in your home is extremely valuable to your child's musical development,
and attending class occasionally helps the other family members to join in
at home.
May I Bring an Un-registered Sibling or Friend?
If you have an older child who is off school and you
wish to bring him/her along to class, you should schedule it on the make-up
scheduler so the class is not too crowded. The school-age kids are always
a pleasure to have and such good role-models for the little ones. Siblings
under 5 who are coming regularly need to be registered.
Often we have room in classes for you to bring a friend. A family can try
a class with no obligation. Invite a friend to class early in the semester
before make-ups get busy. Either use the make-up scheduler or call me and
leave a message to make sure there is room in the class.
As a parent, what is my role in class?
Enhance your child's experience in class by remembering
to sing, sing, sing. Your active participation is the key to your children
learning and growing musically. Support the creation of a music only environment
while in class by not talking to your children or other adults during the
45 minutes. Since it is difficult for a young child to mask out adult conversation
please wait to socialize till after class, and instead contribute to the creation
of a musical environment for the children to absorb.
Try not to give verbal directions. It can be tough to restrain the impulse
to give your child directives such as "Do what she is doing, hold your
instrument this way” but children respond best by just seeing and hearing
you doing (and enjoying) it yourself! Wandering toddlers is fine, but If you
want your child to come back to you, avoid calling to him from across the
room. If necessary, redirect your child physically back to you or the circle.
Of course watch out for your child’s safety, but mostly your job is
to just relax, and have fun!
How should we use the Music Together Materials?
Play your CD at home and in the car as frequently
as possible, especially during the first few weeks of class. Make it available
to your child to listen to while she is playing or before nap or bedtime.
Use the songbook to help you remember the songs or to play along if you play
an instrument. Try using the songbook at storytime instead of a regular book,
and sing through the songs as you go along. Looking at the printed notes on
the page will help children understand that music is something that can be
read, like words. Familiarization with notation will help them when they are
more ready for formal music instruction, typically when they are school aged.
New Music Together parents receive a Parent Education
Guide. During class your teacher will refer to topics and point out examples
of things covered in the Guide. We are also happy to discuss your child's
individual progress in obtaining musical competence at any time outside of
class. If you are a returning student and it has been months or years since
you have read the Parent Guide, reread it! You may be surprised how valuable
it is, especially after having personal experience observing your child's
music development.
Where can I buy some of the instruments we have in class?
Instruments are available for purchase for use at
home or as gifts directly from http://musictogether.com/Store
May I bring a camera to class?
Parents occasionally bring cameras or video cameras
to film their children in class. We also may video tape or take photos for
educational or publicity purposes. Let me know if you do not want you or your
child to be photographed. The best time to take photos is during the playalong
so that you can model and sing throughout the rest of the class.
Do you offer gift certificates?
Gift certificates for any amount towards Music Together
Family and Friends classes can be purchased at any time. It makes a nice baby
shower or birthday gift. Grandparents love to buy these for holiday gifts.
Let us know if you would like it sent directly to the recipient or to the
purchaser.
